This 1945 Grumman TBM-3 Avenger, Bureau Number 85838, has real WWII combat history. TBM-3E #85838 was accepted into military service on March 29, 1945. Assigned to VT-86, coded "308," entered combat shortly after arrival. Flown by Lt. Harry Badgerow during attacks on Japanese naval vessels near Kure Harbor, Hiroshima, scoring direct hits, helping sink the destroyer Nashi, and playing a role in forcing the surrender of the cruiser Oyodo. Flew over USS Missouri during Japan's official surrender on September 2, 1945, and later flew relief missions delivering supplies to POWs at Nagoya Castle. Professionally restored by Airpower Unlimited (John Lane and crew), museum-grade condition.
